• We stopped for lunch at a picnic site on the South Rim trail and were almost immediately spotted by several of these curious Jays. They definitely have no fear of people...
• I was very excited to find a family of Great Horned Owls, including two juveniles. The owlets were flapping their wings and hopping around from branch to branch. It seems that they can't quite fly yet, but they're definitely stretching their wings and getting ready to try!
• Brewers Blackbirds appear to be blacker than black most of the time, but if you catch them in the right light you will see that they are actually very glossy and have iridescent blue, green, or purple highlights. Their song is not nearly so pretty as the red-winged or yellow-headed blackbirds, but they are just as curious and very fun to watch...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com

 • I haven't seen that many hawks lately (mostly my fault for not getting out to look) and so I was happy to find several shortly after I started looking. ..It was an extremely windy day and I actually found several of them and none of them were in any hurry to fly into the wind. They were very happy to stay perched in a comfortable location. This one was no different and while it didnt' ignore me, it certainly showed no intereest in leaving either...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com

 • We went for a hike along the Clear Lake Trail in the Canyon area of Yellowstone. Louise spotted this curious little critter in the woods and so I stopped to watch it for awhile. It was easy to see while it was interested in watching me, but eventually it decided to leave and it easily disappeared into the woods...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com
