• There are Hawks all over the place near the airport in Kelowna. I was out with my Dad and we were actually following a Red-tailed Hawk that landed on the same power pole as this Roughie. the Red-tail took off as soon as we approached, but this one didn't seem to mind us too much. It eventually launched as well, but just did a slow fly by right past us before landing on the next power pole down...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com

 • It has been very cold in Calgary this week, and also cloudy. So when the sun finally popped out today I jumped at the chance to do some snowshoeing in the outer reaches of carburn park. The birds and animals were also obviously enjoying the sunshine as they were very excited and frisky!..©2011, Sean Phillips.http://www.RiverwoodPhotography.com

I slowly approached it hoping to get a few closeup shots, but it took off again. This was the only image I managed to make...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com

 • It's amazing how quickly baby birds grow! It was only a week ago that they were just fresh out of the egg and were a raw pink color. Now they are completely covered in feathers and stretchign their wings. It won't be much more than another week before they're trying to fly!
• I was very excited to find a family of Great Horned Owls, including two juveniles. The owlets were flapping their wings and hopping around from branch to branch. It seems that they can't quite fly yet, but they're definitely stretching their wings and getting ready to try!
• I haven't seen that many hawks lately (mostly my fault for not getting out to look) and so I was happy to find several shortly after I started looking. ..It was an extremely windy day and I actually saw several of these beautful birds perched on bales in the same area as this one. Because of the wind none of them were in any hurry to fly away. Rather they seemed to be very happy to stay perched in a comfortable location. . .This one was no different and although it didn't ignore me, it certainly showed no interest in leaving either...©2009, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com
